Al Gore: The Intrepid

Ever since he came out with An Inconvenient Truth, Albert Gore has been thought to be simply using that movie as a catapult back into the political ranks.

It's been talked about on reputable cable and network new channels (and even FOX News!) that he was going to do his little nationwide movie tour and then upstage the other Democrats as he laughed, joked and even danced his way to the party vote. Basically, they thought the only reason he did it was to remake himself into a kinder, friendlier, less robotic Al Gore.

But then a funny thing happened on his way to the election: he came out with a book.

Then he went on another tour, just to promote it, talking about the detrimental effects of the American lifestyle on the environment. He even got the Pope to admit that global warming is, indeed, a reality.

It's pretty hard to run for president when you're trying to save the world.

And today, he was rewarded for his efforts.

Again, the pundits are saying again that he'll use this to crash the Hillary vs. Obama vs. Edwards vs. A Bunch Of Other Guys Who Really Have No Realistic Shot But Are Fun To Listen To For A While Until They Run Out Of Money parade.

If you'd just won (a share of) the Nobel Peace Prize, would you then go put yourself through a grueling political campaign only to be torn down by the same people who used to support you?

Exactly.
I wouldn't either.

So, here's to hoping Mr. Gore makes the wise decision and stays out of the political arena. I don't think there's any coincidence he looks happier now than I ever remember seeing him while he was No. 2.

so, turns out bruce willis has not only made a career of playing a rough-and-tumble cop who doesn't alway play by the rules. apparently, he's also a pretty marginal singer who had a CD made in the 80's. i don't understand how this is the first i've heard of this, but i thank late-night Soul Train reruns for enlightening me last night.
